1. Logistics
The Logivations team of experienced consultants has optimized various logistics systems or created from scratch:
- Logistics systems from thousands to millions of order items
- Highly automated distribution centres
- Extremely flexible, workforce intensive systems
- Global logistics systems, with projects in Europe, USA, South America, Asia
- High professional competence in dealing with dynamic and volatile systems, such as little (or un-) predictable order inflow and other volatile boundary conditions
Logivations offers logistic expertise combined with a wide and profound background in mathematical analysis and optimization methods. The implementation of this experience in the technological possibilities of innovative web technologies helps our clients to open up completely new opportunities for increase in efficiency. Particularly, the use of technologies like HTML5, WebGL, NoSQL databases ("Not only SQL"), as well as the latest mobile devices and parallel algorithms are the core elements in the Logivations solutions.
The rationality of the revolutionary concept introduction is proved during scientific studies. A recent research by the Economist Intelligence Unit (http://www.eiu.com) shows that incorporating web technologies into company processes can make it up to three times more profitable than the competitors from the world of traditional enterprise systems. Productivity and efficiency require the utilization of existing as well as implementing new ways of cooperation, using the different strengths and skills of those involved.
2. Logistics and Mathematics
2.1 Analytical process
Logistics systems may be large and complex. Therefore, sophisticated mathematical analysis methods are necessary. We specialize on processing quickly and safely the scenarios with over 400 million records. In addition to our flexible and high performance tools (W2MO and SCG) based on NoSQL databases (see below), we also have customer demands scalable server systems that are hosted by our partner, Host Europe.
2.2 Optimization - intelligent algorithms
It is not only important that a system has a specific function - the function must also deliver results of the required quality. A WMS may have a function for the dispatching of orders, nevertheless the optimized dispatching of orders may increase the efficiency in the distribution center by more than 20%. If other targets are also considered (e. g. supplies, load balancing, workforce), the efficiency in the warehouse can be improved further (up to 60% reduction of the operating costs).
Developing and implementing intelligent optimization algorithms is the core competence of the Logivations team of professionals. There is no other team comparable combining this know how for the benefit of the client.
Logistic systems (either entire logistics networks or intra-logistics alone) are driven by high volume of data and huge complexity. To handle it the use of intelligent algorithms is mandatory. Using an intelligent algorithm leads to better results for a shorter period of time. The following issues might be considered:
The use of modern methods of mathematical optimization in logistics is a key core competence of Logivations. There is no other company in the world that combines these two expert domains so successfully.
Logistic systems – either in the network or in the intra-logistics - are characterized by vast data volumes and high complexity. Not only the database, but also the algorithms are crucial in the data processing itself. A more intelligent algorithm leads to significantly better results in less time.
Logivations has already applied the W2MO standard optimization algorithms to several hundreds of different projects fully or partially, while adapting to the needs of each particular client. Basically we rely on modern development environments in Java or C + +.
3. Innovative Web-Technologies
Innovative Web technologies in the Logivations solutions include:
HTML5
HTML5 is the latest version of the familiar HTML markup languages. It offers many new features such as using video, audio, local storage and dynamic 2D and 3D graphics. Built on HTML5 browser-based applications are as interactive, intuitive and user-friendly as traditional desktop applications. Unlike the latter, HTML5 applications can be used wherever a browser is available. Mobile devices, consumer electronics or high professional office systems, HTML5 is applicable everywhere, whatever the environment. The earlier unreachable platform independence combined with the user-friendliness allows brand new concepts and application fields.
WebGL
WebGL - Web Graphics Library - is a 3D graphics application programming interface for web browsers and it support the first time complex, hardware-assisted graphics applications in the browser. The first version of WebGL specification was released on March 3,2011. WebGL is currently supported by Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari and Opera.
NoSQL databases ("Not only SQL")
Conventionally relational databases usually suffer from performance problems in data-intensive applications. NoSQL databases also store the data "in memory" and thus can handle a huge number of read and write requests. NoSQL databases build the central basis of applications on Google, Facebook and Amazon. Completely new possibilities in the simulation and optimization of logistics systems are available in W2MO basing on NoSQL database technology.
Mobile devices
Mobile devices like smartphones or tablet PCs are essential elements of Logivations product strategy. User interfaces are optimized for the use on mobile devices. In particular, the integration of mobile devices provides significant advantages for application areas, such as workforce planning, case calculation or load balancing.
Parallel algorithms
Modern computer architectures offer parallel processing. After over 10 years experience in the use of algorithms in production and logistics, the best algorithms have been restructured and optimized for parallel processing by Logivations. This gives the possibility to calculate considerably larger scenarios in a much shorter period of time.
